When Should I Winterize My Pool?

We are the last people who want to admit this, but, well, ahem…it’s going to be fall soon. Even though the temperatures are still in the nineties, and there are plenty of good swimming days left, it may be time to start thinking ahead to the inevitable drop in temperature that is right around the corner.

When should I winterize my swimming pool?

Option one: If you live around Salt Lake City, Utah, the answer to this question will vary. Some of our pool customers choose to leave their swimming pool open year round. You’ll need to turn up the heat to bear the colder temperatures, but believe it or not, you can continue to enjoy your pool throughout the winter months.

Option two: If you don’t want to pay the high utility prices associated with leaving your pool open all year, you should close your swimming pool whenever you’re done using it for the year. This will vary based on temperature and personal preference, but for many will occur between September and October.

Do I have to winterize my swimming pool?

Unless you’re opting for option one above, then the safest and answer we recommend is: yes! See our post here about the advantages of winterizing your swimming pool for more information.

To schedule your winterization for your swimming pool or spa, call us at 801-208-9527.  We will travel to your Utah location anywhere along the Wasatch Front, including Salt Lake County, Utah County, and Davis County.

What Month Should You Do a Pool Spring Opening in Utah?

As we approach the 2012 Spring season, you may be wondering what is the best month to open your pool. The decision to open your swimming pool is up to your personal preference, when you want to swim, and the weather.

Generally speaking you can schedule your swimming pool spring opening as soon as the weather begins to warm up. If the temperatures dip below a comfortable swimming temperature, you just need to turn down the heater on your pool until the temperatures rise up again. With the local temperatures already in the high seventies, April is the month for scheduling your spring opening this 2012 year.

How to Calculate Swimming Pool Volume: A Pool Volume Calculator

Have you ever wondered how to calculate the volume of your backyard swimming pool? There are many instances in which you will need to have an idea of how many gallons your swimming pool holds- like if you’re adjusting or adding swimming pool chemicals.

We found this handy little swimming pool volume calculator over at Pentair Water’s website. You will need to have an idea of how deep your pool is at both the shallow and deep end of the pool, as well as the basic shape. Enter those values in and push “calculate” and presto! the gallons (or volume of your pool) will be magically calculated.

If calculators are a little too much math for you, and you’ve always been curious about getting help with your Utah swimming pool maintenance– consider giving us a call. We are the only swimming pool company in Utah that specializes in swimming pool, spa, and hot tub service. We are pros when it comes to weekly and bi-weekly swimming pool care, including maintaining your swimming pool’s chemicals. What You DON’T Want In Your Swimming Pool Company

Many swimming pool companies in Utah spend most of their time and energy on building pools, and couldn’t care less about helping their customers with their long term pool service needs. If you notice that your swimming pool company is doing any of the following, you need to call Lifeguard Pools. We are a swimming pool and spa service company, and that’s all we do. Pretty simple, huh?

  1. They Never Answer The Phone: Your swimming pool company should want your business, and should work hard to get it and keep it. If your pool guys aren’t answering the phone and your messages aren’t being returned, your swimming pool company doesn’t care enough about you. Move on to a company that answers your calls, like Lifeguard Pools and Spas. We’ve even been known to answer our phone on weekends and evenings for all of your swimming pool and spa emergencies.
  2. They Never Show Up On Time: Your time is valuable- and you deserve to have your swimming pool service company to show up on time. If you’re spending too much time waiting around and not enough time actually enjoying your pool, give us a call.
  3. They Don’t Send Qualified Pool Professionals: Your pool company should be sending qualified pool professionals who know what they’re doing and perform the agreed upon service. If you’re noticing that the quality of service and repairs is low, it’s time to find a new company.

If you’re looking for a new Utah swimming pool company to complete your weekly or bi-weekly service, give us a call at 801-208-9527.

3 Good Reasons To Schedule Your 2012 Utah Spring Opening Early

2012 is the year! This is the year you schedule your Spring Opening early! Why? Well we’ve got the answers below:

1. Mild Winter=Early Summer:
When the temperature is 70 degrees in March in Salt Lake City, Utah there’s a good chance you could be soaking up the rays poolside in spring this year. And you probably won’t be the only one of your neighbors to have the same idea. Call and schedule your spring opening early this year- and don’t worry, if the summer-like temperatures don’t hold, you can wait to turn on the pool heater until you- and the temperature- is ready.

2. An Ounce of Pool Prevention….:
Hopefully this won’t happen to you, but if you have the misfortune of discovering something has gone awry with your swimming pool or hot tub equipment over the winter months, don’t wait until the last minute to schedule your spring opening. That way you don’t risk spending Memorial Day waiting for a pool repair.

3. It’s Just Not Worth the Worry:

Seriously! It’s not worth missing those beautiful first days of swimming pool season waiting for your swimming pool company to come and get everything up and running. It’s not to early to schedule your swimming pool spring opening. Call us today at 801-208-9527 to schedule your Spring Opening. We look forward to having your pool up and running early this 2012 year.

We also feature the following pool or spa services in case you haven’t done so in a while:

  • Acid Washing the Plaster: Acid wash, like acid trip? No. actually an Acid Wash is more like a facial peel for your inground pool or spa. After you drain your pool or spa, a diluted solution of muriatic acid is applied to the walls of your pool or spa. The acid takes away a fine layer of plaster and leaves your pool looking brighter, fresher, cleaner and with less stains.
  • Tile Repair and Cleaning: We recommend repairing cracked tile as they occur, instead of waiting until half your pool needs some TLC.
  • Draining and refilling pool: Most pools or spas should be drained every 5-8 years. Don’t worry, it won’t cost you an arm a leg to refill, thanks to our Utah water prices.
